U14s Individual Eton Fives Tournament

This year was the first time Prestfelde had taken a Fives team to Repton for the now well-established Beginners’ Individual Tournament. Kianna, Harriet, Grace, Tom and Arlo travelled with twelve from Shrewsbury School and had the most encouraging and successful day! Every one of them saw their standard of play go up in leaps and bounds as they mastered the cut and return of cut and saw the benefit of playing into the buttress to great effect.

Despite being at least one school year younger than all other entrants, each Presetfeldian played courageously through five rounds of matches before the Finals were played. The challenge of this Tournament is that they played with different partners in each match from across five schools: King Edward VI Birmingham, Wolverhampton Grammar, Repton, Shrewsbury and Prestfelde, thus needing to work with new people and adapt to styles and varying ability to overcome their opposition. I am delighted to say that Tom and Harriet won every match they played until their reached the Final, and Grace, although losing one match, earned her place in the Final and won, her partner being Olivia E, who left Prestfelde last year. Prestfelde certainly made its mark and received much applaud from other staff and organisers.
