Shrewsbury Bookfest’s The Big Book Awards 2020

Throughout the Spring term, Year 6 took part in Shrewsbury Bookfest’s The Big Book Award 2020 alongside hundreds of pupils from schools across the County.

Pupils got the chance to read six shortlisted books that were up for ‘Book of the Year’ throughout the term and vote for their favourite. They also had the opportunity to enter a film trailer and art competition in which they produced amazing creative pieces related to the books.

The programme was a huge success at Prestfelde. Pupil feedback has been that Bookfest was incredibly fun, inspiring and allowed pupils to read books that they would not normally choose.

The programme should have culminated in the Bookfest 2020 Awards this week but due to the current lockdown situation, Year 6 were not able to attend Theatre Severn. However, Bookfest put on ‘The Big Book Virtual Awards 2020’ and Year 6 all watched the ceremony with their English teachers live on Zoom!

We are so proud that Prestfelde School came runners up in the film trailer competition with our film entitled ‘George & Gizmo’ based upon the winning book about the last woof and testament of Gizmo the wonder dog by author Ben Davis, ‘What’s that in dog years?’! Out of hundreds of entries, Ed D, Josh C, Manon H, Charlotte O, Saara W and Johnny O came 3rd!

Also, Emilia G was the Prestfelde School winner for the Art competition and Diya S was runner up!
