National sporting recognition

We are delighted to announce that Prestfelde School is a new entry in the School Sports Magazine ‘Top 100 Independent Sport Schools’.

Prestfelde was placed 59th on the list this year and we are extremely proud to be the only co-educational prep school aged 3 -13 in Shropshire to have made the top 100. This is a brilliant reward for the hard work and commitment that our pupils, and of course our staff, dedicate every week to Prestfelde Sport.

“Congratulations to everyone that works so hard to make participation in sport such an enriching and rewarding experience at our school,” said Mrs Fiona Orchard, Head of Prestfelde School. “Being a new entry in the list this year is a fantastic achievement and one that our pupils and staff should be very proud about.”

In compiling their list, School Sport Magazine give more weighting to success in a range of sports rather than single sports and those sports with more schools competing. Reaching the top 100 puts you in the top 3-10%.  Prestfelde have been included this year primarily due to our success in winning the English Schools U13 National Cricket Final, as well as finishing 7th in the country for U11 football and 8th in the County for U11 Cricket.

“It is great to be included in the Top 100 list,” said Director of Sport, Mr Rob Newey “We are rightly very proud of these successes, but we believe the day to day provision for physical education at Prestfelde for all our pupils is to be celebrated. With five specialists PE teachers and numerous qualified coaches, every pupil from year 3 upward receives at least four hours of timetabled Physical Education per week. As well as competing to win regional and national titles, we aim to encourage their love of a sport as well as looking after their health and well-being in general as we believe this is the best way to find success at any level.  This is particularly challenging at present with all our sport activities being run remotely, but we cannot wait to be back on our sports fields as soon as we can.”

Once again, huge congratulations to the Sports Department, and particularly to all the pupils who helped to make our 90th anniversary year in 2019 such a successful one for Sport.
