Shrewsbury's leading co-educational prep school for girls and boys aged 3-13
Welcome to Prestfelde – an independent preparatory school in Shrewsbury for children aged 3 to 13. Based in 30 acres of quiet parkland conveniently located on the edge of the county town we are a thriving and forward-thinking prep school and one of Shropshire’s leading independent schools. With a reputation for academic excellence but also offering a broad-based education suitable for every child. Primarily a day school with the option of flexible and weekly boarding, there are approximately 300 boys and girls at the school. There is an average class size of 15 children, and no class exceeds 20.
The school was assessed as excellent (the highest possible rating) in all key areas by the Independent School Inspectorate in the last full inspection in 2015. A compliance inspection was carried out in late Autumn 2018 and the results could not have been more positive!
A particular feature of the school is the high standard of the facilities within the site: there are dedicated Music, Art and Design/Technology Schools which compare very well with those of many senior schools locally. Recent additions include the impressive 300-seater Blackburn Chapel/Theatre at the front of the school and an entirely renovated swimming pool which is appreciated by all of the pupils as well as the local community.
By growing up in a close-knit, nurturing environment to the age of thirteen, children can remain children that little bit longer. They are given opportunities to try new things without fear of failure, they have time to laugh and enjoy themselves, and they are allowed to develop at their own pace and build their self-confidence in safe and caring surroundings.
We follow Government guidelines in respect of schools in England and we are currently operating a full and varied remote online distance learning programme for our pupils during this lockdown.
Our pre-school nursery pupils are still attending school as well as pupils of key workers. Our robust risk assessment is followed throughout the school and has also been reviewed by the HSE who confirmed the school’s approach to mitigating against the spread of infection is sound.
